- The lower gold content in the Auro Elite 5K ring will make it more susceptible to tarnish. Exposure to various chemicals in the environment may accelerate the tarnishing. The Chemicals or conditions involved with tarnishing are as follows. Chlorine - Usually hypochlorite found in swimming pool and hot tub disinfectants, laundry and cleaning chemicals. Sulfur - Usually sulfides found in natural rubber, some paper products, well water, eggs, some vegetables and some industrial chemicals. Individual body chemistry - Some peoples perspiration contain various amino acids usually disulphide's that may cause tarnishing and discoloration of lower karat jewelry. Everyone body chemistry is different and some are more corrosive than others. Humidity and moisture - May accelerate tarnishing, excessive perspiration or hand washing without drying properly may enhance tarnishing. Combinations of any of the above causes.
